Mission Statement

Our mission is to educate our community on the benefits of the sport of boxing and to be a source to help individuals young and old to be fit and healthy. We are dedicated to educating our youth with coaches that have decades of experience, former and present boxers, qualified volunteer staff and peers who act as mentors on the mental, physical, and spiritual benefits of boxing. The sport and science of boxing is offered as an alternative to negative behavior and bad energy. DNK Boxing provides a positive setting where sometimes troubled or struggling kids and youth are developed into productive men and women of the community. It is the goal of DNK Boxing to turn the passion of the sport into a positive learning experience that students can utilize for the rest of their lives. The program is designed to give our youth the opportunity to become successful adults by making positive choices, character building, youth leadership, education skills and physical fitness.

ABOUT NICK

I come from a boxing family. I grew up hearing stories of my great-grandfather fighting Heavyweight champion Jack Sharky at the Iowa State Fair and knocking him out of the ring! My uncle Rick Day was a popular amateur light heavyweight in the 70s. My grandfather was also a huge fan of boxing both professionally as well as local amateur boxing. The point is that my family loves boxing so naturally, I grew up obsessed with everything boxing in the 80s, and I'm a huge Rocky fan. I consider myself a historian, but I digress. It was an exciting time for the sport. My favorite fighter was Mike Tyson and I model my coaching style from Cus D'Amato. I admire the psychological aspect he used to influence his boxers to become better inside and outside of the ring. Driven to follow in my idol’s footsteps I competed from 1992 – 2013, in amateur boxing. I earned: Three Golden Gloves titles with a record of 45-25, Silver at the National PAL Tournament, Outstanding Boxer at the 1993 Junior Olympics, and Outstanding Boxer at the 2001 Missouri State Fair. After high school, I joined the Army and won the Fort Bragg Boxing Tournament but was never able to recommit to the sport in a meaningful way. Now that years have gone by, I want to pass on my knowledge of this sport while developing core values of respect, discipline, and integrity. I have more than three decades of experience in amateur boxing. For over a decade I have worked as a Personal Trainer at Title Boxing Club, World Gym, and Brick’s Fitness. This experience has taught me how to work with fighters of every age, gender and skill level. There hasn’t been a competitive boxing club in this area for over 20 years and I am excited to bring high level boxing back to this community.
